The Regional Director plays a crucial role in contributing to the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of workplace health and safety initiatives in Queensland. The Regional Director promotes improved safety performance across the community and supports regulatory compliance under the acts administered by the Office of Industrial Relations.

About the role

As a Regional Director, you will lead a region with multiple teams of WHS inspectors attached to the Work Health and Safety Compliance and Field Services (WHS CFS) directorate to deliver appropriate workplace health and safety regulatory outcomes that supports safe workplaces across a range of industries. This includes outcomes resulting from responding to workplace health and safety incidents and supporting strategic and proactive campaigns of priority safety areas. This senior management role is responsible for managing the Region's resources to meet sought outcomes while adhering to the corporate governance principles and responsibilities of the Queensland Public Service. The role also supports the Executive Director, WHS CFS, while contributing to community and stakeholder engagement and participating in various initiatives undertaken by the Office of Industrial Relations.

The Regional Director position can be located at any regional office within the NSEQ region (please specify your preference on the questionnaire).

About the team

You will lead teams of WHS Inspectors across a Region who represent the WHS Regulator by working with industry, stakeholders and the community to improve work health and safety outcomes in Queensland. WHS Inspectors work with industry, stakeholders and the community to ensure regulatory compliance and support industries to build positive safety cultures. This includes investigating workplace fatalities and serious injuries, and where necessary, enforcement and prosecution as targeted responses. Your teams of WHS Inspectors work with persons conducting a
business or undertaking (PCBUs) to improve health and safety in workplaces and play a central role in helping duty holders meet relevant requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011; Electrical Safety Act 2002; Safety in Recreational Water Activities Act 2011 and associated delegated legislation.

Your key responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of workplace health and safety strategy and ‘Whole of Region' business.
• Ensure Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) capability to meet existing and future needs.
• Provide direction and oversight of key business functions and ensure efficient use of financial resources
• Ensure service delivery is consistent and responsive to client and stakeholder needs and that services are enhanced
• Create and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with other relevant agencies
• Ensure resources are efficiently managed and that staff can deliver results through effective leadership
• Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) of regional staff over which you have responsibility - this includes ensuring you and your staff are aware of and observe their HSW responsibilities including under relevant OIR HSW policies and procedures.
