About the role:
The Regional Director – North Queensland plays a vital role in leading, managing and delivering government priorities to support regional prosperity and growth. This role is accountable for a total asset base of $21.B+ of roads, structures, and infrastructure assets. The region employs over 300 FTE and more than 60 contractors.
Reporting to the General Manager (Program Delivery and Operations), you will be a visionary leader, overseeing a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed team of professional, technical, operational, and administrative staff.
A diverse opportunity, this position will not only lead the strategic planning, program development and effective program delivery for the State-controlled transport system in North Queensland but also identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
At times of natural disaster, this role will be accountable for leading efforts to swiftly restore community access as well as longer term recovery.
As TMR’s public face for North Queensland, you will also engage, communicate, and negotiate across a variety of key stakeholder groups including local government, industry, and regional community groups. Your ability to advocate for government priorities while demonstrating genuine and authentic stakeholder engagement and leadership will be pivotal.
A trusted advisor, you will draw upon your technical expertise and knowledge to provide high-level strategic guidance on all critical TMR matters, policy directives and innovative strategies that align with the organisation’s broader objectives, providing counsel to senior executives including the Director-General and Deputy Director-General.

About You:
As the next Regional Director – North Queensland you will have:
- Demonstrated success as a seasoned leader within a large and complex organisation
- Extensive infrastructure background and expertise
- Prior experience acting as a client representative, ideally within an infrastructure/construction environment
- The ability to lead a large multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed team across program management, project planning, corridor management, technical services, and operational delivery
- Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, implement and manage a substantial budget and drive workforce performance to achieve financial and operational objectives, particularly in an environment of rapid change
- Ability to evaluate complex engineering considerations and tailor communications to suit a non-technical audience
- Demonstrated high level negotiation, consultative, communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with the potentially competing needs of local government, state and federal electorates, industry and regional community stakeholders
- Proven success in building a productive, inclusive and diverse organisational culture
- Tertiary qualifications in an aligned discipline would be highly advantageous (e.g. Engineering, Building, Construction, Business Economics, Law).
Location & Remuneration
The location of the Regional Director – North Queensland is Townsville. However, an alternative base location in North Queensland may be considered upon negotiation. A fly-in-fly out option is not considered viable for this opportunity.
The Regional Director – North Queensland, is appointable for up to a five-year term. This job is classified as a SES3 Low.
- Currently the base package for SES3L is $195,944 - $204,138, excluding benefits.
- With benefits, including car, leave loading and superannuation entitlements of 12.75%, is $255,975 - $265,338.
