Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) operates under the NSW Crown Land Management Act 2016 and is the primary cemeteries and crematoria operator for the NSW Government. With a commitment to providing compassionate care and affordable choices, MMP manages eight Memorial Parks across the Sydney and Hunter region, serving as places of reflection and support for communities.
An exciting leadership opportunity has become available for an experienced Operations Manager to join MMP. Reporting to the ED of Operations, the role of Regional Head of Operations supports the leadership and delivery of effective and efficient Grounds and Burials operations across our memorial parks and leads our operations teams in contributing to our organisations purpose “At one of life's most significant moments we provide genuine care and affordable choices for everyone, now and into the future.”
This role will be responsible for our Memorial Parks in the “North East” region. This includes; Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Field of Mars Cemetery, Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery, Gore Hill Cemetery and Sandgate Cemetery.
Working in partnership with the "South West" Regional Head of Operations you will lead in the achievement of shared strategic and operational outcomes and provide leadership and management to site-based cemetery operations teams. As a Senior Leader you will play a key role developing a high performing and engaged workforce and fostering positive and safe organisational culture.
As part of the Senior Operations Leadership Team, you will;
- Oversee site operational management and the projects and programs that contribute to the sustainability and improvement of cemetery operations
- Lead and develop direct reports and broader leadership team capability
- Develop and mentor leaders in effective performance management and lead change in a dynamic and changing environment
- Implement improvements on operational processes and drive a culture of continuous improvement
- Develop operational capability including new or improved methods in key functional areas of Burials and Grounds
- Drive performance improvements/quality and consistency in service standards
- Monitor cost effectiveness of operational works and ensure that budget and expenditure requirements are effectively managed, monitored and reported
- Ensure operational frameworks, standards and programs are responsive to the site profiles including community needs and the industry
- Identify and manage potential and emerging operational risks and incidents and contribute to corrective/preventative actions, management reviews, reports on performance, improvements etc
- Lead a Safety Culture, encouraging others to work safely and role modelling WHS responsibilities to ensure the health and safety of all workers

In addition, you will have the following;
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Senior Operations Leadership role
- Extensive experience in leading leaders and supporting them to lead and develop their teams with demonstrated experience in leading people through transformational change
- Well developed people leadership skills and the ability to influence business outcomes
- Proven experience in implementation of improving operational procedures, planning and executing efficient operating practices, that support organisational strategy and brand.
- Experience with managing budgets/financials/reporting
- Experience in leading the adoption of WHS frameworks and a safety culture
- A hands on approach and able to work both in and on the business
Specific expertise, knowledge or experience in the Parks, Public Space, Landscape or Horticulture industries is highly desirable as is experience leading multi-site operational teams in a service driven environment.
