SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Close Observation Unit (COU) level 3 provides an intermediate level of care between a general ward and a High Dependency Unit. The Registered Nurse/Midwife coordinates and delivers the nursing care to women in line with The Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) Vision and SESLHD clinical business rules, procedures and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. The Registered Nurse/Midwife provides care for Women requiring higher levels of monitoring than standard ward-based care. The COU is a five bed unit situated on Level 4 of RHW. The COU cares for both high risk and acutely unwell Obstetric and Gynaecological/Gynae Oncology women.The COU team work 12-hour shifts in a 6 week roster pattern, in line with the Public Health System Nurses’ and Midwives (State) Award. The Registered Nurse/Midwife working in the COU is required to have at least 2 years of relevant recent nursing experience and skills suitable for the role including but not limited to rhythm interpretation, invasive blood pressure monitoring and non-invasive ventilation.The Registered Nurse/Midwife must have clear communication skills, time management skills and is able to work closely with the multidisciplinary team. The Registered Nurse/Midwife on the COU must work in line with the NSW Health CORE values.Benefits

- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
- Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles.
- Demonstrated recent extensive post registration experience in an acute care setting.
