Embark on a rewarding career and be part of a team where your dedication makes a difference in people’s lives.
About the Role
Join our team as a Registered Nurse, on an ongoing full or part time basis, to work on Forest Ward at Monash Children’s Hospital. Now is an exciting time to join Forest Ward as we delve into more surgical specialities including orthopaedics and extensive plastics. Working on Forest Ward, you will continually be exposed to unique clinical situations and we are looking for nurses who are excited by this ongoing development! You will see a vast variety of surgical interventions, both pre and post op, and will be supported to develop your clinical skills within a fun and encouraging environment. You will have exposure to the following:
- Pre and post op neurosurgery patients
- Pre and post op care for renal transplant patients
- Once settled to the ward, there is the opportunity to upskill to dialysis
About Us
Ward 3a Forest is one of three inpatient units at Monash Children’s Hospital, and while we are predominantly the Children’s Surgical Ward, we also take medical and adolescent patients as required. This means our nurses are able to continually increase their skills by supporting patients and their families presenting with various concerns. Our ward is currently funded to be open to 28 beds with the potential to open to 32 inpatient beds in the future. We work across a 24/7 rotational roster, including AM, PM and Night Duty shifts.
About You
You are a nurse who is eager to continue, or begin, your career in Paediatrics and you will have recent experience in an acute setting, ideally within surgical nursing. You can demonstrate sound clinical judgement in critical situations and you are confident in your ability to identify and manage a deteriorating patient. We are looking for nurses who enjoy building rapport with younger patients and their families, and who understand the importance of family centred care. Being a busy ward, your time management and prioritisation skills will need to be top notch, and you are effectively able to communicate with the wider multi-disciplinary team. You are also:
- Excited by the opportunity to continually learn and have exposure to some really unique experiences
- Experienced in either Adult or Paediatric Surgical nursing
- Passionate about providing the highest quality care to those in your care
- Thrive in a busy environment that keeps you on your toes and constantly developing
- Able to commit to a 24/7 rotational roster
What you need:
- Current AHPRA registration
- Previous experience in surgical nursing, either in Adults or Paediatrics is preferred
- Flexibility to work across a 24/7 rotating roster
- Australian Working Rights
In Return
When you join Forest ward, over your first 6-12 months with us you will work through a structured learning plan to ensure you are meeting the competencies that will see you grow in the role. You will have the support of a highly skilled Education team, have access to daily in services and be working with experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists to support you each step of the way. Forest offers:
- A great team culture where we support each other each and every day
- Education opportunities that enable you to continue to develop your specialist paediatric skills in a unique ward
