QHACS (Queensland Health Academy’s Care Service) is looking for one (1) motivated Registered Nurse - Graduate, to provide holistic and person-centred community nursing care to our clients.
This position is for a Graduate Program. The RN graduate will undertake training in community nursing, mental health and disability support. The program runs for 12 months and on successful completion of the program, the candidate will receive a Certificate of Completion - Nurse Graduate Program from our training service Queensland Health Academy. You will then have the opportunity to apply for a permanent RN/Case Manager role.
The Registered Nurse - Graduate is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective nursing care, supported by and under the guidance of the RN Case Managers and Clinical Nurse Educator.
This is a predominantly office based role but will require occasional roster coverage and visiting clients in the community on a rotating roster. The ability to work predominantly Monday to Friday business hours with occasional weekend, PM and ND shifts is essential.
Support clients with complex medical needs or mental health issues.
During your Graduate Program, you will develop skills to assist you to:
- Develop, modify, and evaluate of care plans
- Conduct intake clinical assessments
- Medication management
- Policy and procedure creation
- Attending to complex wound care
- Learn to conduct complex funding assessments such as continence assessments
- Work with the compliance manager to ensure adherence to accreditation and registration standards
- Visiting client homes to provide nursing care
- Work a rotating roster
- Complete comprehensive progress notes
- Liaise with GPs, care coordinators, RNs and allied health
- Provide direction and supervision to enrolled nurses and support workers.
- Attend to medical emergencies and provide first aid as required
- Clinical on-call for advice and guidance to staff.
- Act as a fill-in member when short staffed
The graduate nurse will be required to complete the following:
- Undertake support shifts at the beginning of the program to learn “on the floor” work
- Complete prescribed education and participate in various education days throughout the 12 months.
- Learn complex clinical assessments for different funding models.

Selection Criteria
- Completion of Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) within the last 2 years.
- No more than 700 hours of paid RN experience
- Current AHPRA registration
- 1 x clinical reference
- Last placement report and ANSAT (if applicable)
- Willingness to participate in a rotating roster
- First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to acquire)
- National Police Check (or willingness to acquire)
- Worker Screening check (or willingness to acquire)
- Proven technological, communication and time management skills
- A passion for providing quality care
- Strong administration and organisational skills
- Driver's license and own vehicle
