Registered Nurse
Medical Assessment and Coordination Unit
John Hunter Hospital
Where you'll be working:
The Medical Assessment and Coordination Unit (MACU) is a 24-bed inpatient unit located in Ward H2 at The John Hunter Hospital.
The MACU was established to facilitate the short-term care of patients who require further observation, interventions, and diagnostics and whose length of stay does not exceed 48 hours. The MACU inpatients are expected to have a transient occupancy of a bed (<48 hours) and are either transferred to another inpatient unit of the HNELHD facility for ongoing care or discharged home. Constant patient flow is critical to the function of the unit, which requires a whole hospital approach to bed management.
The next few years are an exciting time for the MACU. The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will transform healthcare services for Newcastle, the Greater Hunter Region, and Northern NSW communities.
This is an opportunity to work for the largest local health district in NSW which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England, and Lower Mid North Coast areas.
John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. HNELHD has strong, innovative connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.
