The Outpatient Services Unit (OSU) at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse. This is a busy and growing unit with competing demands. What you'll be doing
Providing safe and effective patient-centred nursing care to the patients/clients and carers attending the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Outpatient Services Unit including the Fracture Clinic, the Day Medical Unit (DMU), the Cardiac Investigations Unit and other services.
The NSLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce will be compassionate, competent, confident, contemporary, capable and committed to leading person-centred health care.
- The provision of safe and effective patient-centred nursing care to the patients/clients and carers attending the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Outpatient Services Unit including Fracture
- Clinic, Day Medical Unit (DMU), cardiology/cardiac investigations and other services
- Screening referrals from a clinical perspective to determine priority and whether Outpatient Services Unit is the appropriate place for treatment
- Supporting wound care in the Fracture Clinic and Surgical Clinics
- Providing assistance to the DMU with the administration of IV therapy including immunoglobulins, blood transfusions, iron infusions, drug transfusions for treatment of chronic and complex conditions, TOVs and bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treatment
- Provision of leave relief within Outpatient Services
- Escalate workload issues, clinical concerns, adverse events, critical incidents, near misses and complaints to the NUM in a timely manner and ensure the incident is entered into IMS+
- Ensuring optimal outcomes for patients/clients and carers of the service through the promotion of best practice including the appropriate escalation of care
- Working collaboratively utilising effective team communication with members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation of patient care.
- Acting as an advocate for the specific needs of all patients/clients and carers including those from the indigenous population or other multi-cultural groups providing appropriate care to the patient/client undergoing specialised procedures
- Maintaining and promote a professional standard evidenced by ethical nursing practice, adherence to the policies and procedures of the Nursing and Midwifery Service, NSLHD and the appropriate legislation and statutory regulations
- Effectively managing resources relevant to the service.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

- Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Current clinical knowledge and clinical problem solving ability
- A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- An understanding of the professional, ethical and legal requirements of the Registered Nurse.
