Emergency Department
Full time and part time, fixed term positions
About the roleSeeking Senior Registrars/Registrars within the Emergency Department. These positions will also have the opportunity to complete rotations through ICU, anaesthetics and specialty departments.
Grampians Health Ballarat Campus comprises the Base Hospital (221 acute beds), Queen Elizabeth Centre (Sub Acute Care 70 beds) and Psychiatric Services (67 beds]. New short stay unit and modern, emergency, critical care, ambulatory, aged care and rehabilitation facilities uniquely integrate in-patient, ambulatory, community and home-based services. Grampians Health Ballarat Campus is a major training site for the University of Melbourne and Deakin Clinical Schools.
Grampians Health Ballarat Campus recruitment for the 2023 clinical year is currently underway for the Emergency Department (ED). These positions have been redesigned to better provide a clear pathway either into Emergency training, or the GP training program for our region. The department helps in gaining the Diploma and/or the Certificate in Emergency Medicine. BHS ED is currently accredited for 12 months training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), and is undertaking the process of reviewing to extend this to 18 months.
We are seeking dynamic candidates to join the team in an increasingly busy department. The department sees over 60,000 patients per year with approximately 25% paediatric presentation rate and a growing admission rate of 24-25%. A 12 bed Short Stay Unit is also managed by ED. The department has a culture of supervision and support for junior medical staff. This includes proactive training for HMO and Registrar groups, protected weekly training sessions, multi-disciplinary M&M and a responsive positive feedback program.
We are looking for doctors who have a team focus, exceptional communication skills and a desire to learn emergency medicine skills in a regional setting. The department places a high priority on patient centred care and a supportive team environment. Candidates will ideally have registration with ACEM and/or a strong interest in Emergency Medicine.
