- Build strong engagement with local audiences
- Permanent, Full-time
- Kununurra Location
- Circa $85K
The Role
You will be based in Kununurra, a border community that acts as a hub for the vast East Kimberley region with many Indigenous communities, cattle stations and nature reserves scattered across this frontier landscape.
You will be reporting on the unique challenges of living in this remote part of Australia and will immerse yourself in the richness and complexities of various Aboriginal language groups.
News reporters are vital in bringing the characters and stories of these communities to local and national audiences.
The Job
ABC News is looking for an enthusiastic and talented reporter to create compelling news content across all platforms.
The ways to tell these stories are ever-evolving; it could be a live cross into TV with overlay you filmed yourself using the latest mobile technology, an online story on Australia’s most trusted news website, a carefully crafted radio package on AM, a short piece in a radio news bulletin you’re presenting live or vertical video social media.
About You
You will be a resilient solo operator with a love of long drives, ancient stories and a willingness to unpack acute social problems which people in mainstream Australia may struggle to imagine.
You will have the patience to sit down and yarn with people who may speak English as a third or fourth language and have had very little experience with the media before.
You will make strong contacts with everyone from agency heads, pastoralists and tourism operators to culture carriers, traditional owners and those with a deep connection to the land and waters.
You will have experience with breaking news and generating original stories in a daily news environment. You will be a team player who can also work independently.
We would love to see your work. Please submit material with your application online (include examples, links to websites or attach audio/video files up to 5MB).
What we can offer you:
- 15.4% ABC Nominated super.
- Paid parental, carer’s and supporting partner leave.
- Salary packaging.
- ABC Mentoring.
