  • New and exciting opportunity for a Research Administration Officer to join the Northern Clinical School's research team
  • Base Salary $67,787- $75,272 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Northern Clinical School is a teaching hospital of the Sydney Medical School headquartered at Royal North Shore Hospital. We support students in our Doctor of Medicine program and well as practitioners completing postgraduate specialist training.

Medical research is another important activity within our school. Over one hundred postgraduate students are involved in a broad spectrum of research ranging from basic laboratory research to clinical and epidemiological projects across the campus. The Kolling Institute of Medical Research is the oldest research institute in the state of New South Wales. It forms the nucleus of our research activity, which is conducted at a variety of locations on the hospital campus and throughout the northern area of Sydney.

We are looking for someone who can be both a front-runner and back-end processor, balancing the exceptional communication skills needed with patients and participants with the administrative and research activities needed for this role.

The Research Assistant addresses routine matters linked to the provision of administrative and operational support for the research work being undertaken by the work area. The incumbent will be expected to exercise some initiative and judgement in the preparation and submission of research publications, ensuring requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

The Research Assistant provides assistance and support at the Bill Walsh Translational Cancer Research Lab at the Kolling Institute. They are involved in the collection and biobanking of specimens from cancer patients and they maintain laboratory records and product information for the project. They undertake general laboratory maintenance duties and participate in meetings to help plan and discuss the work program. They provide vital research-related advice, and manage data analysis.

  • work independently and autonomously or closely under the guidance of leadership team.
  • Assists with administrative duties including data logging, archiving, and assists with the administrative running of the associated projects in the Research lab
  • regularly communicating with the patients, ensuring consent forms are signed by patients
  • collecting the samples specimens and collection of samples for the Lab . Maintaining data base ,patients details and record keeping.
  • liaise with patients and potential trial participants for research purposes
  • maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork, filing and storage
  • assist and prepare reports and data by liaising with research investigators

About you

  • education and experience criteria: Bachelor's degree in medical science public / diploma with exp/medical sciences or related. Fresh graduates with some previous experience or proven skills in running or assisting with research projects are also welcome to apply.
  • well versed in science background knowledge, with demonstrated excellent communication skills
  • understanding of research protocols, as well as the capability to complete ethics submissions and grant applications
  • relevant understanding of work health and safety policy.
