The Opportunity
The Inflammation Team studies the role of immune regulation in human disease with a particular focus on the contribution of B cells to Multiple Sclerosis. In this role as a Research Assistant, you will be working alongside this experienced team who are committed to providing opportunities for you to learn and grow to maximise your potential.
It is a varied role which will see you build upon your lab experience whilst developing your data analysis and scientific writing skills by contributing to experimental design, data collection and analysis for ongoing projects within the team.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Plan and conduct research data collection.Maintain and record research data accurately.Processing and handling of human blood according to relevant regulations.Purifying immune cells or working with prepared immune cells.Planning, designing and executing laboratory assays, including flow cytometry-based assays and culture of immune cells.Analysis of research data.Integration of flow cytometry data with clinical data.Preparation of scientific reports, figures for publications or conference. presentations, preparation of relevant correspondence.Conveniently located at Perth Children’s Hospital, this role will be offered on a full-time basis for 12 months. Part time (3 or 4 days a week) may be considered for the right candidate.
About You
We are looking for a dynamic team player who can think on their feet, jump into new tasks easily, and can contribute to experimental design, data collection and analysis for the ongoing projects within the Inflammation team by using your knowledge in techniques such as flow cytometry, human and bacterial cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA and RNA-seq to assess immune cell profiles in biological samples.
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in the following:
Bachelor of Science (Hons) in a Biomedical discipline or related field (e.g., Immunology, Microbiology) or relevant work experience.Preferably at least 2 years’ experience in a similar work environment with demonstrated knowledge of research methodologies.Experience in handling of primary immune cells and/or human cell lines.Demonstrated experience with flow cytometry.Proficiency in working with human samples and clinical data.High level written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated organisation and time management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.Experience with cell transfection is highly desirable but not essential.Proficiency in at least one statistical program Eg.
