About Us
The Victoria Law Foundation (VLF) was established in 1967 and is a statutory entity under the Victoria Law Foundation Act 2009 (VLF Act). The VLF is a small and high functioning team, priding themselves on their expertise, collaboration and meaningful work in research, education and grants to support better justice for all Victorians. Their functions are focussed on capability – supporting the justice sector to engage effectively with the community they serve, and to build understanding and confidence in our legal system.
About the Role
The Research function supports the VLF’s vision of “a fair, equitable and accessible justice for all Victorians”. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Research Director is a key member of the VLF’s leadership team.
This role will guide a highly skilled research team, to make a valuable contribution to improving access to justice in Victoria and contributing to national and international thinking on justice.
This role is available full time or 0.8FTE.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Strategic research leadership inside and outside the VLF
- Development, design and implementation of research consistent with the aims of the VLF
- Engagement with the leadership team to ensure integration of the research work with other VLF activities
- Management of research projects, including planning, conducting and reporting
- Development and maintenance of high methodological standards
- Development of strong internal and external relationships
- Management of the Research budget to deliver the on VLF strategic and business plans
- Management, leadership, development and support of the Research team

About You
The successful candidate will have exceptional experience in research, preferably in civil justice, or a closely related field. You will also have a clear commitment to the VLF and its aims.
This role will suit a person with extensive networks and a highly collaborative style. You will also possess strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. You will have exceptional problem solving and critical analysis skills, as well as excellent administration and project management capabilities. Your strong written and verbal communication skills will ensure you are able to present effectively to diverse audiences.
