The Opportunity
As a Research Fellow in Horticulture Crop Science, you’ll lead, expand, develop, and implement research initiatives for Horticultural Crops. Based in Launceston's Newnham campus you will be supported to build your own high quality research portfolio and provide leadership in your area of research.
You’ll undertake applied science and work in partnership with growers and the private sector to expertly and independently determine the benefits of new technology and innovations. You’ll collaborate with colleagues to develop funded research projects within the fields of plant physiology, plant nutrition, crop health, agriculture technology and innovation. This position will play a key role in addressing our strategic agenda to sustainably increase productivity in the horticulture sector.

Supporting The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) is a specialist institute at the University of Tasmania with a mandate to deliver research, industry development and education for the agri-food industry of Tasmania. Our vision is to enable Tasmanian food producers and processors to accelerate primary sector productivity while maintaining and improving Tasmania’s land and water quality for future generations.
What’s Required
You’ll hold a PhD or equivalent in Plant Science, Horticultural Science, or Agriculture. You will bring to the role a demonstrate record of impactful research with national recognition, evidenced through quality publications, presentations, and acquiring successful funding. Additionally, experience in facilitating the adoption of innovative research outcomes within the horticultural industry will see you succeed in this role.
You’ve previous experience building and maintaining effective networks with growers, industry stakeholders, and the wider community will enable you to achieve outcomes. You’ve knowledge of agricultural technology and digital innovation relevant to the horticulture cropping sector.
Occasional intrastate/interstate travel, lab work, and manual handling may be required,
Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,083 comprising of base salary within the range of $108,285 – $125,712 plus 17% superannuation.
