Overview:Full-time, Fixed Term position until May 2027Salary Level Academic B + 17% SuperannuationBased at the Melbourne CBD campusAbout the roleAs Research Fellow – Materials, you will work with research teams and partnerships across the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide (GETCO2), using both computational and experimental approaches for the discovery and development of materials for electrodes and electrocatalysts related to CO2 reduction.You will carry out independent and/or team research which will have a significant impact in materials science, specifically related to the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide and be acknowledged at a national level as being influential in expanding chemistry and materials knowledge related to electrochemistry.This position is based in Applied Chemistry and Environmental Science in the School of Science at RMIT University and will collaborate widely with national and international investigators involved in GETCO2.To be successful in this position, you will have:Evidence of experience in both computational approaches (machine learning and density functional theory) to inorganic materials discovery and well-developed, hands-on laboratory synthesis of inorganic materials and their characterisation.Evidence of experience in altering materials for improving movement of charge carriers and catalytic processes.Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs, which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, and competitive research funding.Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise higher degree by research candidates.Ability to build effective networks with colleagues resulting in collaborative outcomes.Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering or closely related field.Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.About the GroupThe research group participates in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide (GETCO2), which gathers a critical mass of expertise to tackle the world’s biggest challenge – carbon dioxide. Led by Professor Xiwang Zhang, GETCO2 is a $45M, 7-year collaboration funded by the ARC, university, industry, and government partners. The national university partners of GETCO2 are The University of Queensland, Griffith University, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, RMIT University, Monash University and University of Adelaide. GETCO2 is the world’s largest research endeavour focusing on electrochemical conversion of CO2 into useful products such as fuels and chemicals. Acting as a focal point for research, training, technology translation and advice, GETCO2 is positioned as a global leader in carbon dioxide transformation.
