The Artificial Intelligence for Law Enforcement and Community Safety (AiLECS) Lab is a true partnership between Monash University, the Australian Federal Police, and industry. AiLECS is currently undergoing a rapid period of growth, with a fully funded plan of work stretching for at least the next four years. This is a rare opportunity to see your theoretical research directly applied for the community good, across diverse fields such as counter terrorism, countering online child sexual exploitation and organised crime.

The Opportunity
The AiLECS research is engaged on themes including: AI and machine learning for community safety, pattern of life characterisation (including natural language processing, social and economic analysis of networks), data ontologies, ethics, explainability and transparency of AI, AI in forensics, and AI and the legal system.
As a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow, you will be responsible for the conduct of research as well as a limited contribution to the teaching program. In this position, you will be expected to support the production of conference papers and publications and supervision of research-support staff members and PhD students in their research projects. You may also be required to contribute to the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies.
About You:
As the successful candidate, you must possess a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline such as (but limited to):
- Computer science
- Data science
- Ethics of technology/AI ethics
- Network economics
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
