The Research Grants team aims to identify, develop and support new grant funding opportunities to build on the scale, quality and reach of UTS's research activities and deliver impact through the translation of outcomes into practical use.
About the Role
The Research Grants Officer (Pre-Award) plays a critical role in the Research Grants team and contributes to the aim of maximising UTS research excellence and impact by building the quality and volume of grant funded research projects and collaborative research partnerships involving UTS researchers; and ensuring that grants are established and managed according to the funder's governance and reporting requirements.
As the Research Grants Officer, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver accurate and timely proposal support across Australian grant schemes
- Provide compliance support for major grant funding rounds according to the specific requirements of the relevant funding body.
- Prepare grants related content for the monthly Research Opportunities Newsletter including information on funding, training, advice and research updates
- Assist researchers to prepare budgets for their grant proposals that meet UTS's and the funder's guidelines and policies.
- With general direction, manage the acceptance of letters of award and standard agreements for grant funded research projects and fellowships
- Support the planning, coordination and post-award management of UTS internal grant schemes under general direction from senior staff. Assist in coordinating the assessment and award processes.
At HEW 7, your additional responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development of research grant proposals and post-award management requirements.
- Play an active role in the planning and coordination of internal grant schemes
- Manage the acceptance of letters of award and standard agreements for grant funded research projects, and in addition fellowships and centres

With examples, please outline within your Cover Letter, how you meet the following five (5) key selection criteria points below:
- Understanding of research grant proposal preparation and submission processes, including developing research project budgets.
- High-level organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise and carry out a diverse range of competing tasks to a high standard
- Excellent comprehension, oral and written communication skills, with a high level of accuracy, literacy, numeracy, and attention to detail.
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience working in a research administration function; in particular, experience in reviewing and processing grant applications and managing post-award grant matters (desirable).
Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $92,851 to $113,344 pa (HEW 6/7)
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and the appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
