Background
FluoroMet is a critical minerals process development company based on the NSW Central Coast. FluoroMet’s purpose is to deliver cost-effective, closed-loop, zero-waste processes to meet the ever-increasing needs of the global energy transition.
The FluoroMet technical team have recently demonstrated their processing technology’s ability to deliver ultra-high purity materials for the Li-ion battery and nuclear industries, and with secured funding for pilot plant development, there now exists an opportunity for the recruitment of a Research Officer Level 1 to join the team on this journey.
Purpose of this role
Primarily, this position is a hands-on wet and dry lab support role requiring a good working knowledge of all applicable task SWIs to ensure smooth and timely progression of numerous R&D projects pertaining to the synthesis of high purity critical minerals and Li-ion battery materials. Training will be provided on specific tasks and required emergency actions, and the RO will become well-versed in all applicable chemical SDS and site-wide critical safety equipment and protocols.
The RO position is largely lab-based and shares the responsibility for maintaining both the wet and dry lab in terms of their cleanliness, functionality and safety. A more detailed break down on this position is provided below.
- Prepare all samples for experiments (dry prep)
- Ensure all lab equipment is clean, ready to use and in good working order
- Prepare all primary and ancillary reagents for experiments
- Track reagent use to keep manifest up to date
- Maintain the cleanliness of the wet and dry labs
- Track and maintain PPE stocks
- Check condition and expiration of critical PPE
- Ensure correct chemical and sample identification in addition to all required QA/QC protocols
- Maintain an adequate stock of cleaning products for the dry and wet labs
- Maintain the currency of all safety equipment checklists
- Maintain adequate stock of sample storage containers
- Maintain calibration of various pieces of equipment
- Directly assist with experimental runs and maintain all required observations records
- Assist in the drafting of experimental outcome reports
About you
We are looking for a candidate that:
- Has industrial experience working within a wet geolab, preferably with concentrated solvents and hazardous materials.
- Is familiar with generic dry lab sample preparation techniques (drying, milling, sieving, weighing and recording).
- Is experienced with various wet lab tasks including reagent dilution and preparation.
- Has a good working knowledge of a wide range of laboratory glassware, associated apparatus and their purpose.
- Is preferably degree qualified in chemistry, chemical engineering, geochemistry or similar.
- Has experience wearing a range of task-specific PPE, including full-body PPE for prolonged periods of time.
- Is familiar with the dynamic nature of applied R&D work.
- Can contribute to problem solution and work direction discussions.
- Has a demonstrable commitment to WHSE policies and procedures.
- Has well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- A high regard for attention to detail with a methodical approach to task evaluation, execution and risk awareness
This is a full-time permanent position (36 hr/wk) that comes with an initial 3-month probationary period. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
