  • Casual Research Officer position within the Sydney Environment Institute at the University of Sydney

  • Casual - Initially 1 day per week (7 hours) but possibility of extending to 2 days per week (14 hours total)

  • HE06 Step 1 $65.61 per hour

About the opportunity

The Sydney Environment Institute (SEI) is looking for an experienced Research Officer to support the activities of its Environmental Justices research theme.

An exciting opportunity is available for an early career researcher with a strong background in research assistance and project administration to provide support to senior researchers exploring environmental injustices, including SEI's world-leading research on multi-species justice. The role will involve undertaking core aspects of research administration, coordinating research activities, and contributing to key project outcomes.

Your key responsibilities will be

  • Contribute to the general support of the research program, including specific projects in the Environmental Justices theme.

  • Provide administrative support to senior researchers, including organising meetings, maintaining databases and assisting with ethics applications.

  • Conduct data analysis and literary reviews, aid in preparing preliminary research reports where required.

  • Manage the development and submission of research publications.

  • Work closely with the research team and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle, and adhering to ethical research practices.

  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities, including proving research support to the broader SEI team.

About you

  • Must have Tertiary Qualifications (ideally with Honours) in appropriate discipline with relevant experience in related field.

  • Interest in addressing global environmental issues.

  • Experience in a research-intensive environment.

  • Extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, project coordination, ethics submissions and grant applications.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.

  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision.
