An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Safety and Compliance Officer to join their team based in Mackay. On offer is a permanent position with the opportunity to further your career. You will be working with a positive team in a supportive environment. 

The Safety and Compliance Officer will ensure that workplaces are safe and compliant with local and federal health and safety standards. They will identify hazards, assess risks to health and safety, put appropriate safety controls in place, and provide advice about accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees.

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Plan, implement and review WHSE policies and programs, SWMS & JSA’s.
• Developing and recommending safety measures to protect the wellbeing of employees.
• Monitoring for compliance, anticipating and controlling hazardous and unsafe conditions.
• Promoting healthy and safe working methods and practices in the workplace and conduct onsite inspections.
• Identifying, recording and reporting on hazards, accidents, injuries and health issues.
• Assisting with the investigation of accidents, studying possible causes and providing remedial advice.
• Conducting health and safety training sessions for management, supervisors and workers.
• Managing worker’s compensation claims and assisting with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents and overseeing their successful return to work.
• Coordinating emergency procedures.
• Developing Occupational Health and Safety plans 
• Ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Handling logistics of fleet, tooling, plant & equipment, compliance, registration, servicing and maintenance.
• Ensuring proper storage and labelling of hazardous materials.
• Ensuring proper waste management.

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• At least 3 years’ experience as a safety/Compliance Officer in the construction industry.
• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419), Diploma of Work Health and Safety (BSB51319) or Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety.
• Experience in commercial construction specifically with industrial, mining, transport, specialised workshops, community facilities, accommodation, health, retail, and education.
• Skills in safety management accompanied by a strong knowledge of administration & process to ensure compliance.
• A current Construction Industry Blue or White Card, Industry Safety Induction (ISI) or equivalent CSG inductions, First Aid & CPR; Certification with the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) OR consider applying for certification.
• Knowledge of the construction process and common challenges.
• Competency in Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Outlook; use of construction management software a bonus.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• A positive attitude – be optimistic about situations, interactions, and yourself.
