SMS Mining Services is a privately owned, West Australian based Mining Contractor. Founded in 2000, we have evolved from equipment rental to encompass maintenance and contract mining divisions.
We are currently seeking expression of interest from experienced Safety and Training Advisors for upcoming projects scheduled to come online in Q2 2024.
The Opportunity:
You will be directly responsible for providing advice, guidance, support and coaching in all matters Heath & Safety. As a key driver of safety best practice, you will be a proactive leader for our maintenance teams making it a priority for all our site based personnel to have a "Safe Day, Every Day".
About the Role:
- Support the projects risk management process e.g., General Risk and Critical Risk.
- Conduct initial incident investigations and reporting.
- Assist with the implementation of the site’s fitness for work monitoring program.
- Conduct Field Interactions.
- Collate and analyse relevant safety / training data and prepare monthly performance reports.
- Review and Update site Management Plans e.g., Safety Plan, Traffic Management etc
- Assist in the injury management process.
- Actively participate in improvement activities i.e., inspections/audits, toolbox meetings, training needs analysis.
- Provide recommendations for the improvement of health and safety related policies/procedures.
- Responsible for the training and assessing of all Maintenance workers onsite - VOC
- Ensuring that all employees are suitably trained / certified to work on heavy machinery.
- Maintaining and updating employee training records and Training plans on skills matrix
- Maintain and update the company Training Data base as required.
- Promote a safe work environment by adhering to the SMS Safety Commitments and Values
- Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety at a minimum (Diploma is desirable).
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessing – TAE 40116
- Sound understanding of current Work Health & Safety Legislations
- Ability to accurately complete an ICAM
- Qualifications in completing and conduction audits is highly advantageous
- Good knowledge and understanding of risk management e.g., JHA, Risk Registers and Critical Risk
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a site-based Safety & Training role within a mining or maintenance environment.
- Excellent time management and coordination of work planning skills
- Development and continual review of training documentation
- Ability to undertake a gap analysis of site training matrix / training needs analysis (TNA)
- Hold the required competencies to be able to be registered through an RTO, to deliver Nationally Recognised Training e.g., Working at Heights
