About the role
Reporting to the Head of People, Safety and Compliance, you will oversee and take accountability for Health and Safety for ARA Property Services and associated entities. This includes instituting continuous improvement of the ARA Safety Management System, visible leadership and being responsible for health and safety performance monitoring, procedure development, audit processes, training and incident investigations.
As the Safety Lead for ARA Property Services and associated entities, you will be directly responsible for driving and proactively managing the Health and Safety risks associated with the planning, delivering and implementation of the ARA Safety Management System.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
• Lead development and implementation of WHS Strategy, safety management plans, WHS Risk register and ARA WHS Management System in line with ISO 45001 standard, organisational strategy and planning.
• Work closely with senior management to provide strategic direction to ensure the highest standards of safety to protect the health and safety and well-being of our people and ensure compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements
• Provide visible leadership across the national contracts
• Engage, motivate, mentor, train and influence workers and business leaders to fulfil their legal Workplace Health And Safety obligations
• Develop and distribute safety communications to inform and educate employees, business leaders and contractors about safety issues, requirements and expectations. Including organising the site folders and documents.
• Lead and support others on incident investigations ensuring that root causes are identified and mitigated to prevent recurrences
• Maintain the ARA safety system and effective monthly reporting
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, site risk assessments and develop and deliver toolbox talks and other site activities to mitigate risk or improve safety performance
• Lead risk assessments on key risks and ensure effective controls are implemented, and reviewed for effectiveness.
• Identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities in safety practices and processes.
• Establish new safety initiatives and campaigns to improve safety performance and ensure new concepts are implemented aligning with the company’s strategic goals.
• Ensure that effective consultative mechanisms are in place, and are effective.
About you
You will be an experienced Health and Safety leader. You always strive to do your best and with a continuous improvement mindset with a wealth of knowledge in acts and regulations. You will inspire a proactive health and safety culture through your demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to best-practice Health and Safety processes
• Tertiary qualification in WHS Management (Certificate minimum)
• Extensive experience in a similar Health and Safety leadership role
• Experience in the construction, utilities or field-services sectors is highly desirable
• Multiple contractor and subcontractor management experience
• A strong systems and process focus, including reporting, KPI’s competency assurance and health surveillance
• Advance communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
• Proficient computer skills in MS Office suite
• ICAM or similar certification is highly desirable
• Initiative and a proactive approach to work and undertaking tasks outside of core requirements with a growth mindset
• Flexible to travel interstate
