About your new role:

The purpose of the role is responsible for the delivery of high quality advice and support to frontline services on all aspects of Work, Health and Safety.  In order to do this effectively, you will undertake health and safety compliance audits, monitor and assist with incident investigation and reporting, and engage with key stakeholders on a regular basis to build positive relationships, and drive best practice health and safety outcomes.

The position will be involved in coordinating projects, maintaining the WHS database, the development and review of WHS policies, practices, and guidance notes, conducting risk assessments, workplace audits, investigations and inspections, to maintain and ensure continuous improvement of our safety management systems.

Duties:

  • Maintains a portfolio approach to ensure key learnings are applied at a multi-site level
  • Supports the achievement of WHS strategic objectives, and drives a culture of safety across services within your area of responsibility
  • Actively promotes a robust health and safety culture through awareness and prevention initiatives, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Partners with frontline services, and provides practical advice and /or guidance on all aspects of WHS compliance
  • Conducts WHS audits, develops audit reports, and monitors progress toward the resolution of Corrective Actions
  • Proactively monitors key health and safety metrics to identify trends or hotspots, and develops strategies for addressing areas of concern
  • Provides WHS training to ensure compliance and contributes to the ongoing development of a safety-conscious workforce
  • Provides support and advice to safety committees and other consultation processes
  • Keeps abreast of relevant legislative changes, best practice, industry benchmarking, etc. to facilitate high-level compliance and continuous improvement
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders, and facilitates collaborative partnership
  • Supports injury management and return to work activities as required
  • Work in accordance with Baptistcare’s Code of Conduct.

Skills and Experience:

Essential 

  • Qualification (minimum Certificate IV) in WHS with 3 years experience
  • Commitment to providing a customer centric approach
  • Strong knowledge of WHS regulatory frameworks and statutory requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement of WHS management systems
  • Demonstrated analytical, reporting and skills
  • Demonstrated investigation experience with a continuous improvement focus.
  • Works under direction with responsibility for own output
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact and influence effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Relates well with other people, enthusiastic, and a “can do” attitude
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the state. Travel is highly probable in this position. This may include overnight stays away from home

  • Understanding and knowledge of using the safety system 'Fortify'
  • Knowledge and Experience of safety concerns in the Aged Care Industry 
  • WHS Auditor Qualification
  • Accredited incident investigation training
  • Return to Work Coordinator training 

Conditions of Employment

  • National Police Clearance (screened in accordance with the organisations policies).
  • Influenza vaccination on an annual basis per organisations policy
  • Three (3) COVID Vaccinations per organisations policy
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical
