The role
As a member of the Safety & ESG team, the Safety Specialist will report into the Safety manager, and ensures Employees, Contractors, and Port Users are provided with expert advice, support and guidance to ensure that GPC meets all of its statutory obligations for safety.
The Safety Specialist will also assist in driving a positive safety culture by working closely with leaders and workforce to coach and mentor for safe behaviors.
This is a 6-month fixed term contract opportunity.
Further to this, you will
- Lead Safety Improvement projects as assigned via the annual safety business plan or other business needs;
- Mentor and coach leaders and workforce to enhance their safety leadership skills and behaviours;
- Lead major incident investigations, understanding the root cause and managing appropriate corrective actions;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the accredited safety management system, including conducting audits and maintaining the system to align with contemporary safety methods and best practice; and
- Prepare and provide reports and data as required.
About you
- As a health and safety subject matter expert, you will have experience in working with front line leaders and operational staff in a high risk, complex organisation;
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships with an operational workforce;
- Demonstrated experience in working within a previous Safety Specialist or senior advisory position, with a strong safety generalist background including leading incident investigations, facilitating risk assessments, safety management system maintenance, and coaching / mentoring leaders; and
- You will be resilient, hard working, with a humanistic approach, and the ability to simplify complex legislation to ensure it's fit for purpose for the end user.
