About Nyangatjatjara

Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation (NAC)

NAC was established in 1993 with the goal of addressing the employment, educational and economic development needs of three closely related Aboriginal communities in the south-western area of the Northern Territory: Imanpa, Mutitjulu and Kaltukatjara (Docker River).

Today, NAC’s primary focus is education provision for Anangu in the southern region of the Northern Territory. NAC is the owner of an enterprise arm that largely operates independently.

Nyangatjatjara College (NC)

We opened our doors for the first time on July 21st 1997. In the first five years the college grew from one building to multiple temporary buildings at four campuses based in the communities we serve.

We provide secondary education across three remote communities, and primary education in one (Docker River). All of our students are Aṉangu and all speak Pitjantjatjara or Yankunytjatjara as their first language. We are also the only secondary education provider in the Northern Territory south of Alice Springs.

Your Opportunity

We now have a rewarding, full-time opportunity for a School Principal/CEO based at the Yulara campus, also travelling to Imanpa and Docker River.

This pivotal leadership role combines both Principal and CEO duties, seeing you responsible for providing support to the Board of Directors and coordinating the operations of Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, while also assuming a leadership role in the operations of Nyangatjatjara College. A key part of your CEO role will be running a corporation and working from early years to secondary across multiple campuses.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Taking responsibility for the planning and implementation of educational programs at Primary and Secondary levels across the three community campuses;
  • Planning and implementing operational procedures, supervising staff, overseeing budgeting, and ensuring the continuing development of the College as a quality learning institution;
  • Contributing to and implementing strategic leadership of Nyangatjatjara College and the Corporation (NAC);
  • Overseeing  infrastructure development and financial management of the College and the Corporation;
  • Working alongside the Board of Directors to develop and implement policies and procedures, administering the NAC within the guidelines of ORIC (Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations) and the relevant Acts;
  • Facilitating Board meetings, including preparing agenda papers, recording and distributing minutes, arranging Director attendance, maintaining relevant records of the corporation and coordinating AGMs;
  • Strong engagement with community members, stakeholder and community organisations, including Government representatives and non-Government organisations; and
  • Working collaboratively with funding bodies and consultants to initiate strategies and projects to develop the governance capacity of NAC.
What You'll Need

To qualify, you will need a minimum of 3-5 years experience as a principal. Prior experience in a remote aboriginal community is also considered essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience with strategic planning and policy development
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and financial resources
  • Skills in staff supervision and development
  • Capacity for community engagement and relationship building
  • Knowledge of or experience with Indigenous cultures and education

This role will suit a passionate education professional who demonstrates warmth, patience, intercultural capability and generosity, and who is ready and willing to pitch in and drive the team. Flexibility and adaptability will be key to your success in this role, as you'll be working within a frequently changing environment.

Please Note: To be considered, you must be willing to undergo a National Police Check, an NT Working with Children Card, and be registered/or able to obtain registration as a teacher in the Northern Territory prior to commencing employment. A current manual driver’s licence is required, while a Light Rigid License will be highly regarded.

Benefits

This is an incredible opportunity to become involved with a dynamic workplace and experience living and working across a diverse group of remote communities - something most people never get to do!

The position comes with an attractive remuneration package circa $221,910 - $233,253 including base salary, 13.5% super and remote allowance! Other benefits include:

  • Annual airfares to Alice Springs and travel assistance;
  • Fully maintained vehicle available for private use;
  • Fully furnished accommodation (3 bedroom house) with utilities;
  • Paid study leave and contributions to further study;
  • 6 weeks' annual leave; and
  • Salary sacrificing up to $15,899.
