Marian Catholic College is seeking a passionate and dedicated School Science Laboratory Assistant to join our team on a permanent part-time basis (days to be negotiated).This role provides essential support to our teachers in a dynamic classroom setting. Join us and help ignite our students' enthusiasm for science!The position falls under the NSW and ACT Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2023, Classification Classroom and Learning Support Services Stream Level 4, and is remunerated accordingly.Position Objective:The School Science Laboratory Assistant collaborates with the other lab assistant and school staff to support teachers, students, and school leadership in achieving learning and wellbeing outcomes.This role involves assisting teachers, students, and school leadership to ensure the successful delivery of educational and wellbeing objectives. Additionally, this position supports teachers and students in classroom settings and facilitates curriculum-related services provided by the school's Science Laboratory.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:A Laboratory Assistant (Level 4):
- will utilise their in-depth knowledge in specific areas and a wide range of skills across various roles and tasks
- will use their discretion and judgment in planning, organising, and achieving outcomes within time constraints
- will work under general direction, sometimes semi-autonomously, and may supervise other Classroom and Learning Support Services employees
- will hold a minimum of a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills; however, we prefer candidates who possess a Certificate IV, Advanced Certificate, Diploma, or higher
- must have relevant qualifications and/or experience in preparing chemical solutions.
- Providing technical assistance in the operation of a laboratory.
- Preparing simple chemical solutions and, under instruction, more complicated solutions.
- Receiving, issuing, distributing, stock-taking, and safeguarding teaching resources, goods, supplies, stores, materials, and equipment, excluding dangerous goods; monitoring expenditure on resources.
- Developing and using appropriate storage systems, including for dangerous and toxic substances consistent with material safety data sheets.
- Researching reference material under the direction of a teacher.
- Assisting with the selection and preparation of teaching resources that meet student needs and interests.
- Preparing displays, charts, diagrams, and models.
- Assembling and dismantling, and conducting minor maintenance on, equipment or teaching aids for demonstration or practical work.
- Preparing practical work for use in the classroom, including general and complex laboratory experiments.
- Cleaning up after experiments and ensuring that prep rooms are kept clean, tidy, and well-stocked.
- Assisting in the training of other Classroom and Learning Support Services and General Employees.
- Performing any other duties as directed by the principal.
- Report incidents and dangerous hazards to the supervisor on the date of the incident and ensure the immediate removal of any hazard.
