Position Information
Edmund Rice College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and highly motivated Science Laboratory Assistant to support the Science Department, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Science laboratories within the College.
Reporting to the Head of Department: Science, the key responsibilities of the Science Laboratory Assistant includes but are not limited to the following:
- Setting up / packing up class experiments for students
- Performing risk assessment in relation to experiments at the College
- Assisting students and staff with enquires and support as required
- Maintaining stock control and ordering of materials and equipment on behalf of the Science Department
- Assisting teachers throughout lessons, including setting up for practical lessons in the laboratory and providing support during learning activities
- Ensuring MSDS are current and up to date
- Distributing resources to students and staff as appropriate
- Cooperating with all work, health and safety considerations and procedures of the College, taking reasonable care that actions or omissions do no impact on the health and safety of others in the College
- Ensuring the appropriate signage and documents are displayed in the Science Laboratories, including safety related information and compliance records
- Performing other administrative duties as required
- Actively participate in the life of the College by attending events including liturgies, staff development days and other functions
- Assisting the Science facility with any other reasonable requests
About You
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following essential criteria:
- Relevant qualification/s in a science / laboratory field
- Previous experience working in a science / laboratory setting (within a school desirable)
- Knowledge and understanding of laboratory processes and chemicals
- Possess an understanding and working knowledge of safety in a laboratory setting
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisation skills
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, performing the role in a professional, pleasant and cooperative manner
- Possess a valid Working with Children Check.
- A commitment to the child safeguarding principles.
- An understanding and commitment to the Mission and Ethos of the College in the Edmund Rice tradition.
