About you

The successful applicant will support the Science department in maintaining laboratory resources, and preparing equipment, chemicals and other resources for practical lessons in a secondary school environment. This role is not mainstream science lab work but rather a type of work which is unique to secondary school science labs.

Essential Criteria:

  • TAFE Laboratory Technician Qualifications or equivalent
  • experience in laboratory work
  • previous experience in a Secondary School setting (desirable)
  • experience managing chemical safety using the Chemwatch Platform and familiarity with the Risk Assessment Tool (desirable)
  • ability to use discretion and judgement in working under general supervision and/or broad guidance to select equipment, organise work and services and achieve outcomes within time constraints
  • excellent organisational skills that would allow for the timely ordering of equipment and the preparation of apparatus and solutions
  • specific knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations involving hazardous chemicals and a range of quality control and maintenance skills are essential components of the position
  • be an active member of the school WHS Group
  • ability to maintain a safe working environment
  • ability to work effectively within a team
  • ability to work under limited direction
  • possess effective interpersonal skills
  • competence in using technology and record keeping
  • possess effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • professional presentation
  • an understanding and ability to support the Catholic ethos and engage in the Catholic life of the College
  • a commitment to the full range of College activities
  • ability to complete Sydney Catholic Schools safety audits for Science, Technology, and Applied Studies (TAS) and Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA).

You will have attained:

  • an Employee ID registration number with Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) or a commitment to Register to Work in SCS.
