St Joseph's Nudgee College (Est. 1891) is a Catholic Boys' Day and Boarding school in the Edmund Rice Tradition for Years 5-12, with a student population of 1730 including 310 boarders. The College caters for students from the local Brisbane area, regional and remote Queensland, interstate and overseas which provides for a rich learning environment both inside and outside the classroom.
The College is seeking an experienced and committed applicant for a permanent Science Laboratory Technician.
Role details
- Permanent position
- Part Time, Term Time - 4 days a week, 8.30am - 3.30pm, 32.5 hours per week, School Terms only
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Duties and Tasks:
- Prepare scientific experiments for classes, including chemical dilution and mixing.
- Distribution/collection of equipment and for practical work.
- Assist teachers during practical classes.
- Complete, collect and store risk assessments before distributing practical materials.
- Maintain store rooms, preparation rooms and laboratories.
- Routinely monitor performance of scientific equipment.
- Stocktake materials and equipment - reorder as required.
- Prepare culture media, sterilise equipment and dispose of biohazards safely and promptly.
- Liaise with and assist students completing extended experimental investigations.
- Prepare and maintain displays.
- Assist with maintenance of chemicals register.
- Collect and/or receive deliveries of stock (including unpacking stock, checking invoices, storing stock).
- Participate & assist in field trips.
- Assist with accurate data entry.
- Dispose of laboratory waste in a safe manner.
- Wash and store glassware/equipment.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Formal Laboratory Technician qualification.
- Experience in laboratory setup and function.
- A Positive Notice (Blue Card) for Child Related Employment from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.
