Treetops is a small, caring educational community, located in the Perth Hills. Due to growth in student numbers throughout the school, we are now seeking an enthusiastic Secondary (Middle school) Teacher. This position is full-time (but can be potentially be part- time). This role will commence in April 2024. Our ideal candidate for our year 7-8 classes, is a Teacher who is looking for an opportunity to be a part of one of Perth’s well-established innovative learning communities. Treetops places great value on educating the individual within a child-centred setting.
The School utilises the Western Australian Curriculum for Years 7 to 10 (and year 11-12 WACE General courses). The applicant will be hardworking and detail-oriented, with excellent knowledge of the subject material and a sound understanding of the Western Australian curriculum. The applicant ideally should be available to start from Term 2 2024.
Key Objectives
To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school's policies, under the direction of the Principal.
Essential Criteria for Candidate
- Ability to engage and motivate students.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Western Australian curriculum, together with a contemporary approach to teaching, learning and assessment.
- Willingness to embrace the ethos of the school, especially respect for the individual, while delivering an innovative and academically-challenging education.
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary) qualification; or relevant Bachelor qualification, together with a Graduate Diploma of Education in Secondary Teaching. However, we are also interested in Primary –trained teachers who would like the opportunity to work in Secondary school.
- Current TRBWA registration (or ability to gain registration prior to commencement of employment).
- Current working with children card
Desirable Criteria for Candidate
- Experience in child-centered education and inquiry-based learning.
- Experience in teaching in years 7 and 8 – and/or years 11 and 12.
- Extended teaching experience in Upper Primary school – but looking to work in a Secondary environment
- Experience in multi-age grouping.
- Ability to create and manage a differentiated curriculum.
- Open to learning new skills and techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively and energetically within a highly differentiated student-centred school culture.

Specific Duties of this Role
- Ensure the successful implementation of a differentiated curriculum in multi-age group classes.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Treetops by regularly attending staff meetings.
- Work collaboratively with other teaching staff.
- Ensure that assessments and student records are kept up to date.
- Ensure that Curriculum requirements are being met and that outcomes are clearly documented.
- Use the Western Australian Curriculum in planning.
- Maintain ongoing records of student progress.
- Document all parent/teacher interviews.
- Regularly report to parents, in accordance with school guidelines.
- Attend Professional Development sessions.
- Work with School Leadership to support the school’s guiding statements/philosophy.
- Work with a small team of Secondary teachers to ensure a vibrant, positive culture of learning.
- Effectively communicate relevant aspects of programs with members of the Treetops community.
- Comply with contemporary WHS work practices.
- Willingness to perform extra-curricular tasks e.g. camps, sport, concerts, excursions and special programs.
