St Brigid’s Primary School, Middle Swan is a double stream co-educational School, catering for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. Our committed and enthusiastic staff work closely together to provide a collaborative and supportive learning and teaching environment. The successful applicant will enjoy working with the Special Education Unit Coordinator in a team environment, have a passion for education and possess the initiative required to work successfully in a primary school setting. Our Students with Disabilities Centre is a safe grassed and fenced area with a huge, enclosed trampoline and a soft landing area with a comfy couch and beanbags. We cater for students with a range of disabilities who are funded by CEWA.
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher for our Special Education Support Centre. Days required Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (days can be negotiable). This is a temporary part-time role (0.6 FTE) with the possibility of ongoing. The successful applicant must be qualified, live out their faith in their daily lives and be passionate about students’ learning and development.
Selection Criteria
The role of the Students with Disabilities Teacher is to work with Coordinator and classroom teachers to promote successful inclusion for children with special needs. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and innovative Primary School educators with the following attributes:
• Be fully supportive of the Catholic ethos and exhibit an active personal witness to the Catholic Faith.
• Promote collaborative action between coordinator and staff by joint planning and programming for students with disabilities.
• Assisting and organising the Educational Assistants with the implementation of student work while in the centre.
• Oversee implementation of educational programs run in the Special Education Centre.
• Organise, attend and contribute to IEP meetings as required.
• Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness and a passion for education, especially Special Education.
• Demonstrate the ability to use assessment and continuous monitoring methods and tools to adjust the teaching practices to cater for the needs of all students in centre.
• Have a understanding of Disability Standards in Education.
• The capacity and enthusiasm to build positive and constructive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
• Liaise with CEWA Special Education Consultants and other professionals in matters pertaining to students with special needs in the School.
• Liaise with other School staff, medical professionals or therapists in obtaining information for students with special needs.
Qualifications Required
• Relevant 4 year tertiary qualification in Primary Education.
• Accreditation to work in a Catholic School (or prepared to work towards).
