Deakin University is seeking to appoint a Senior Academic Support Officer to assist all undergraduate and postgraduate First Nations students with face to face and online services to support in their academic success and growth by constructing meaningful educational plans which are compatible with their life goals. Please note that in line with special measure provisions in Section 12 of the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act (2010), the University will only be accepting applications for this position from people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
As a Senior Academic Support Officer, you will:
- Identify and lead the design, delivery and promotion of learning skills workshops for students that are responsive to their developmental needs and provide support at significant points of transition, and where possible embedded into course design and delivery.
- Lead the coordination, development, and delivery of programs to assist students to build their academic skills and readiness for tertiary study prior to entry in course and units.
- Collaborate closely with Institute Academic Staff on the ongoing development and review of learning resources and services to support student success with a focus on varied forms of resources and services.
- Deliver effective and efficient interaction statistics and accurate records, in order to address any underlying issues by offering suggestions and insights to enhance the program in a timely and efficient manner.
- Plan and oversee all aspects of the Indigenous Direct Admissions Program, including working closely with the Institute Manager on eligibility requirements for external stakeholders, NIKERI professionals, academic staff, and prospective students, all while delivering sustainable outcomes within time, cost, and quality constraints.
- Support ad hoc projects new programs, and initiatives that enhance and extend access to student learning support, ensuring collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with NIKERI students, academics, professional staff and relevant stakeholders pertinent to the role.
- Develop and implement a strong foundation of knowledge, learning, and dedication to uphold personal integrity; and make choices that are in line with the principles of the University and the NIKERI Institute values.
- A Degree in Education or other degree with extensive academic experience in Higher education or Tertiary setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both individually or as part of a team within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in a culturally respectful way with groups and individuals within the Institute, the wider University and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.
- Demonstrated relevant experience in the efficient implementation and administration of student programs within a University or Tertiary environment.
- Excellent communication, project management & digital literacy skills, with experience in operating under high-pressure environments within a large, complex organisation
