Job description

The People Branch has the below opportunities currently available at the APS6 level on a full-time, ongoing basis. Part-time applicants will also be considered for the positions. Upon confirmation of success to fill a position, an agreement can be made to determine suitable hours for both parties. The department is committed to a flexible, innovate, supportive and safe workplace where work-life balance is a priority.
A merit pool will be established and may be used to fill vacancies in the People Branch as they arise over the next 18 months.
The key duties of the position include
Senior Recruitment Advisor
The Recruitment team is responsible for continuously implementing the department's talent acquisition strategy, working across the branch and business areas to contribute to the department's objective to attract, retain and develop the right people for the right jobs at the right time. As a Senior Recruitment Advisor you will be:
  • assisting to triage and allocate work to team members on the day to day operations of the team
  • engaging with business areas on recruitment strategy and identify solutions to fit their circumstances
  • draft, review and quality assurance checking and provision of full recruitment services, including advice to managers and staff on recruitment issues, press and APS Jobs advertising, letters of offers and vetting selection reports, review position descriptions to ensure they meet the classification requirements
  • contributing to continuous development, including contributing to the design and implementation of the Recruitment strategy, procedures and documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and APS policy and practices
  • building strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to provide customer service and assist in managing more complex queries
  • interpreting HR-related issues, legislation and the Australian Public Service (APS) employment frameworks
  • managing competing priorities in a proactive way and under limited direction
  • other duties as directed.

Senior Programs Advisor - Entry Level Programs
The Entry Level Programs team is responsible for coordinating the Department's Entry Level Programs, including the Graduate Development Program, Schools Leaver Program and various whole Government diversity programs. As a Senior Advisor, Entry Level Programs you will be:
  • promoting our programs, engaging with potential applicants, contributing to the design of selection and assessment methodology and coordinating contract management with external recruitment providers.
  • coordinating the placements of program participants, provide advice and support to program participants and supervisors, support the implementation of the capability development program for participants.
  • being a main point of contact for program participants for support and assistance throughout their program
  • conducting regular check-ins with participants and supervisors.
  • assisting with determining team priorities, staffing and workflow to meet deadlines.
  • a strategic element which focuses on development and implementation of strategies, plans and initiatives to support our Entry Level Programs.

Senior Advisor - Performance and Conduct
The Performance and Conduct team is responsible for providing advice and support for conduct and performance case management for the Department. As a Senior Advisor Performance and Conduct you will be:
  • working collaboratively with all stakeholders, develop efficient solutions based on relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • undertaking case management activities related to performance, probation, review of actions and code of conduct matters, including undertaking preliminary assessments. Provide advice to managers and staff on performance, probation, review of actions and code of conduct matters.
  • assisting with review of our employment procedures, guidelines, training materials and guides.
  • coordinating activities across the Section including training activities and general Section coordination.
  • Undertaking the Secretariat role for the Workplace Respect Officer network.
  • managing competing priorities in a proactive way and under limited direction
  • other duties as directed.

Senior Advisor - Workplace Relations
The Workplace Relations team is responsible for providing people-centric advice on our Enterprise Agreement and associated employment procedures. We also manage the department's consultative committee. As a Workplace Relations Senior Advisor you will be:
  • providing high quality and timely advice on departmental employment matters in compliance with the department's enterprise agreement, relevant legislation, APS policy and departmental policies.
  • reviewing and updating departmental employment policies and practices to align with the new enterprise agreement and contemporary human resources practices.
  • managing the Departmental Consultative Committee Secretariat function.
  • assisting with strategy development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives in a dynamic employment law environment.
  • providing briefings, reports, and papers relating to complex employment matters to senior management and the Executive.
  • building and maintaining strong and effective partnerships and working relationships with all clients and stakeholders, including employee organisation officials, senior management in the department and the Indian Ocean Territories Administration.

  • The ability to operate effectively in an environment of competing priorities and tight deadlines, including the capacity to respond quickly to changes in requirements.
  • Collaborative and engaging business partnering style, with the ability to influence and advise.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved.
  • Proven ability communicating to internal and external audiences as well as excellent verbal, written and analytical skills. Having the ability to adapt communication styles to situational circumstances.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with SAP and SuccessFactors is highly desirable (Recruitment Advisor position).
