About the role AEMO's Forecasting division is responsible for providing medium and long -term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and demand. The Market Operability team is responsible for the delivery of Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO) for central and eastern Australia and the short-term operability forecasting for the Integrated System Plan (ISP) for the National Electricity Market (NEM).
As one of our Senior Analysts, you will undertake energy market modelling and analysis for the east coast gas and electricity systems which contributes towards the development of the GSOO and the ISP. You will also be responsible for supporting the development and execution of a program of work focused on the delivery of the recommendations of the ISP Review process.
What you will be doing
- Providing technical advice and expertise on market modelling matters focused on the GSOO and reliability modelling for the ISP
- Applying advanced modelling methods, economic theory, and research to finalise model inputs and assumptions, run models, analyse results, and present analysis in written reports and verbal presentations
- Supporting and leading the development of publication content focused on gas and electricity modelling results and analysis, and interpreting the analysis from teams across AEMO
- Communicating analytical insights to a broad audience, including senior management and other internal and external stakeholders
- Playing a key role working within the team, including identification and development of model improvements
What you will bring to the role
- Proven industry experience in market simulation (preferably PLEXOS) and/or forecasting tools, processes, philosophies, including interpretation and justification of data and results
- Previous knowledge or experience in the regulatory and investment framework for Australian energy markets, and an understanding of economic assessment techniques and power system reliability assessments
- Experience working in small analytical teams to deliver outcomes on time and to desired quality
- Experience in writing technical reports and other documents that convey, in simple terms, complex ideas and analysis
