More action is needed to reduce emissions and manage climate change. At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.  
 
We are working together for renewable, affordable reliable energy for all Victorians.   
 
Your role  
 
As the Energy Business and Systems Analyst, you be responsible for overseeing the development of business processes, policies and systems that will support the delivery of the SEC’s energy market objectives.     
 
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.  
 
What you will do:  
  • Business Analysis & Process Definition– identify, document and maintain business processes across the Customer and Trading Domains.  
  • Business Requirements Specification – collaborate across the Energy Markets team and conducts business requirements workshops to illicit and capture business requirements for Customer and Trading systems.  
  • Vendor management – Working with the Head of Technology and Data, manage the relationship with software providers, such as ETRM and Retail solution providers ensuring that requirements are completely and appropriately presented 
  • Technology Governance – Collaborates with architecture team and participate in Architecture Review Board discussion.      
  • Business process and systems improvement – collaborate across the Energy Markets business to develop and maintain a forward-looking view of market competitive requirements and supporting technical capability.  Support solution design via translating information from stakeholders, systems, delivery and business artifacts into clear specifications that enable quality outcomes.   
  • Partnering and co-creation – Work alongside the Energy Markets team to capture end-end business/user requirements and enable solution identification.  Identify and partner with users/stakeholders/experts to ensure active collaboration in the design process to understand user needs, obtain ideas, insights and input. 
  • Data Governance – Ensure solutions across the Energy Markets domain meet established data standards to help achieve ‘Data as an Asset’ objective.

Must Have: 
Experiences and Skills: 
  • Strong technical nous with deep understanding of Energy Markets business, application and systems landscape for electricity retailers.  
  • Exceptional analytical skills and ability to apply a structured and systemic approach to articulating requirements and solutions.   
  • Systems Thinking:  Formulates potential courses of action to achieve objectives based on an in-depth understanding of the business environment & its systems 
  • Great relationship building, communication, negotiation and collaboration skills. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive approach and ability to thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment. 
  • Ability to write high quality reports, deliver presentations and run requirements workshops, business case development and have experience presenting information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.  
  • Project Delivery: Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes; Coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities; Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required.  
  • Influence and Persuasion: ability to gain agreement to proposals & ideas; build behind the scenes support for ideas to ensure buy-in & ownership; use chains of indirect influence to achieve outcomes; Involve experts or other third parties to strengthen case. 
Highly Desirable: 
Qualifications and experience: 
  • Business Analysis qualifications (e.g., CBAP/Agile) is highly desirable.  
  • Managing solution requirements and project deliverables through various range of project management qualifications tools (Agile and Waterfall), such as MS Project, Jira, Scrum Boards. 
  • Minimum 5 years working in a Business Analyst role or similar on IT or Business change projects / programs is highly desirable.  
  • Solution delivery experience covering one or more of Customer (CRM), Metering or Utility Billing 
  • Solid understanding of Victorian Electricity market regulations and key compliance obligations for retailers.
