As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service (SES), and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
Management Support Services, SES delivers on the QFES organisational priorities and objectives to deliver SES volunteer workforce capability by providing management of governance and business improvements through supporting regions and volunteers with strategies, planning and procedures to delivery operational support functions as outlines in the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990.
Reporting to the Manager, you will be a key member of the team, responsible for monitoring, coordinating and analysing the activities and support for the SES Volunteer Management System (VMS), including other various applications, and contribute to an environment in which high quality resources and business improvement functions are delivered to users and senior management that meet quality assurance and align with departmental and legislative requirements. You will also provide high level administrative services to support business operations and the delivery of services to Queensland SES volunteers.

- Knowledge and experience in information management/technology services, including the administration of database management systems.
- The incumbent will be appointed as a staff member of the SES and the hours of duty applicable to this role are pursuant to the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award - State 2015: specifically, the spread of ordinary hours for SES staff are 0600 to 2200, Monday to Sunday.
- Capacity to participate in an out of hours on call roster during disaster operations. This may require working extended hours, outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends.
- Capacity to work on night and weekends to suit an SES volunteer environment.
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Provide effective administration and financial support services and reporting, including advice on policy and procedures to ensure compliance and governance standards are maintained.
- Monitor and maintain critical VMS and investigate issues or faults, develop risk profiles and/or vulnerabilities, and recommend options for the resolution of service delivery issues to ensure a successful progression to production is achieved.
- Conduct regular audits and analysis of the VMS and service provider/s performance to ensure data integrity, business continuity and reporting is maintained, and continuous improvement is achieved.
- Provide advice on a range of project initiatives, policy and procedural issues relating to specific volunteer training or operations to support sound business planning and decision-making.
- Prepare and review reports, briefings or correspondence regarding operational or legislative issues to support ongoing capability development within SES, in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Research, analyse, evaluate and interpret data relating to volunteer business operations in line with program outcomes.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and implement service delivery activities, processes, policies and planning for volunteer programs.
- Represent the department and SES as a subject matter expert in supporting high level working groups, meetings and forums and negotiate agreed outcomes as required.
