The Opportunity

As the Senior Community Laws Officer for East Gippsland Shire Council, you’ll ensure the peace, order, safety and amenity of the Shire by providing both the community and internal Council employees with guidance and information to ensure they are compliant with relevant acts, regulations and local laws.

Your day to day may include:

  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Community Laws team, and acting as Coordinator during periods of absence
  • Participating in animal control functions including responding to complaints and emergency situations
  • General law enforcement including impounding of vehicles and parking infringements where required
  • Assisting in the resolution of enquiries, complaints and problems identified by the public
  • Advising, assisting and making recommendations on fire prevention
  • Preparing rosters for and oversight of School Crossing supervisors

This is a permanent, full time opportunity leading a team of Community Laws Officers and School Crossing Supervisors and is based from Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance. You’ll also join an on-call roster responding after normal business hours and on weekends to calls of an urgent nature.

  • Experience in a regulatory and enforcement field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ensures a culture of action and exceptional customer service
  • Ability to utilise information technology.
  • Experience in the supervision of staff.
  • Good customer service skills, conflict/dispute resolution and negotiating skills.
  • A current, valid Victorian driver’s licence

If successful, you will need to undertake a police check, pre-employment medical check and hold a current and valid Working With Children Check. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
