Responsibilities Include
- Mentor and provide supervision of direct reports, by providing technical advice, training, guidance, motivation and support.
- Foster an engaged, innovative, customer-focused and high performing team, reflective of Council’s values.
- Ensure the safety of residents through administration and compliance of relevant Acts and Council’s Local Law by exercising the powers, duties and functions of the role in accordance with the instruments of delegation and Authorised Officer of Council appointment.
- Assist with the development and delivery of community safety services and programs which reflect community needs and comply with relevant legislative and regulatory provisions.
- Manage the provision of council’s animal shelter services as the Pound Manager ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice for the Management of Dogs and Cats in Shelters and Pounds, including handling, seizure, impoundment, release, rehousing or humane euthanising of impounded animals, as required.
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of strategic policy, plans and procedures relevant to the service, including the collection of data and information as required.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of systems, processes and strategies that create greater efficiencies and promote best practice that better support the needs of the Community
- Ensure adherence to Councils’ statutory obligations for which the Community Safety team are responsible.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders relating to Community Safety
- Oversee Council’s After Hours on-call community safety service and participate in the service as required
- Assist with the management of Council’s School Crossing Supervisor operations
- Assist Council in fulfilling its emergency management responsibilities by attending the Incident Control Centre as Council’s Emergency Management Liaison Officer, manage displaced animals during emergencies and act as the Assistant Fire Prevention Officer.
- Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents’ skill, competence and training.
- Certificate IV in Local Government (Statutory Compliance) and/or Certificate IV in Animal Management is desirable
- Substantial relevant experience in an enforcement field preferably in local government.
- Demonstrated experience in an enforcement/compliance environment or similar with a demonstrated capacity to undertake compliance inspections and general enforcement work both reactively and proactively and prepare correspondence and reports which can be used in policy decision making and legal proceedings.
- Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to mentor and provide guidance/technical advice and ensure team members are clear about their roles, responsibilities and expectations and how they contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of the community safety service
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of quality customer service and service delivery as part of a team including previous experience in effectively dealing with conflict and stressful situations
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with a flexible positive approach to change and maintain a positive team culture with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement
- Sound computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including word, excel and teams and other computer applications.
