Job description

As a Senior Database Administrator at De Grey Mining, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless management and optimisation of geological data, contributing to the success of the Hemi Gold Project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance geological data collection, storage, and reporting workflows.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement efficient database structures.
  • Contribute to the development of database-driven applications.
  • Showcase your expertise using SQL scripts for data extraction, analysis, and report generation.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and data purging for data integrity and optimal system performance.
  • Monitor database performance, optimising queries for efficiency.
  • Implement and uphold security protocols to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Control user access and permissions.
  • Identify and promptly resolve database-related issues.
  • Implement disaster recovery plans to minimise data loss.
  • Document comprehensive database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Stay abreast of the latest database technologies, applying patches and upgrades as necessary.
  • Continuously fine-tune database performance for optimal efficiency.
  • Plan and execute data migration projects when required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and IT system administrators.
  • Ensure database systems comply with industry regulations and standards.
  • Implement and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies.
  • Provide training and support to end-users and team members.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably with a focus on geology or earth sciences.
  • An understanding of DataOps Framework
  • Azure Data services
  • Strong understanding of geological data formats, structures, and terminology.
  • Familiarity with data modelling, schema design, and data normalisation principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Manual C Class Driver's License.
  • Current National Police Clearance.
