Job Description

Your New Role

Reporting to the Group Head of Housing, the Senior Development Director, Regional Housing position will play a critical role in our Senior Leadership team, that will see you delivering a portfolio of housing opportunities across Victoria as part of the Victorian Governments Housing Statement.

Core Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver the strategic vision and agenda for the group to deliver housing outcomes in line with Government policy.
  • Provide expert policy and strategic advice to senior management and ministers, including the negotiation of significant outcomes where there are divergent views and conflicting agendas.
  • Work across the organisation (including the Housing, Civic Infrastructure, Precincts, Origination, Operations, Advisory and Communication and Engagement groups) to plan the projects, achieve government support and deliver the projects within a commercial framework and consistent with committed government policy outcomes.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships within government and with Traditional Owners, Local Councils, authorities and across the regional communities within which the Regional Housing portfolio is to be expeditiously delivered.
  • Contribute to the Leadership Team in the development of organisation-wide strategies, budgets, policies, and culture to ensure the achievement of organisational goals and financial objectives.
  • Collaboratively develop strategies for value creation and capture, economic development, placemaking, governance and community engagement and lead project teams implementing these strategies.
  • Promote and represent Development Victoria as a market leader in the development of innovative, sustainable, and commercially responsible housing outcomes, reinforcing our unique and important role as government’s developer.
  • Oversee and manage the delivery of the portfolio of Regional Housing projects, supporting the achievement of goals and objectives in accordance with budget, time, and quality outcomes.

Please note - This is a fixed term position available for a period of up to 5 years.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

The role requires a candidate with experience leading teams and managing complex housing projects that align with both commercial objectives and organisational goals, in addtion to government policies and objectives.

This will require:

  • Tertiary degree or higher qualification in property, construction, architecture, design, engineering, project management or related fields.
  • Energetic and motivating team leadership abilities
  • Proven experience navigating complex construction and property markets and working collaboratively and innovatively to deliver tangible value for money outcomes.
  • An understanding of state and local government economic, planning, and other policy drivers, including the Victorian government’s Housing Statement, and their impact on successful delivery of housing projects.
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver housing outcomes with the right balance between policy outcomes and commercial delivery.
