Job description

  • Full Time, contract to 30th June 2025

The Senior Digital Capability Officer will be responsible for supporting the delivery of Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) digital health activities, and providing online and face-to-face support to improve the uptake and meaningful use of state and national digital health initiatives. This role will support an increase in digital health maturity over time for community and residential aged care homes (RACHs).

The Senior Digital Capability Officer will be responsible for facilitating access to virtual health services and solutions that enhance the care of older Australians across the three Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) regional sites as well as ensuring equity of access to rural and remote areas.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they will:

  • Support a group of Residential Aged Care Homes (RACHs) in a region to have appropriate clinical facilities, equipment, staff training, and technology to provide to their residents with access to quality virtual care from general practitioners (GPs) and other clinicians.
  • Contribute to the initiatives that support RACHs to implement comprehensive out of hours arrangements and action plans, including appropriate staff training and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with RACHs, community-based aged care organisations, and Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) in the NQPHN region to provide integration education and skilling opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and other primary care providers. 
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to PHN staff and community members relevant to the digital health programs.
  • Accurately collect and collate data to assist with evaluating any initiatives undertaken and provide reports as required. 
  • Identify and report risks and issues related to digital health and the aged care sector.
  • Support priority activities identified in the national digital health framework that align with our NQPHN activities. These activities are:
    • My Health Record
    • Secure Messaging
    • Interoperability and Data Quality
    • Medicines Management
    • Workforce and Education.

Key selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline and/or two years relevant work experience specifically in primary health care. 
  • Understanding of the technological and digital systems used in aged care in Australia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in information technology. 
  • Working knowledge of the capabilities of common digital health systems such as clinical information systems or customer relationship management (CRM) systems. 
  • Working knowledge or experience with My Health Record Provider registration process.
  • Skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to network and work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals and consumers. 
  • High-level skills and experience in utilising the Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM, and SharePoint.
