Located 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. About the role
The Sun Metals site lies in the coastal zone adjacent to Cleveland Bay. The extensive monitoring conducted throughout the surrounding landscapes and particularly the aquatic ecosystems in the adjoining wetland areas, offer a particularly diverse opportunity to the successful applicant.
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Advisor will provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the operation on the design and ongoing development of environmental programs, environmental compliance, regulatory approvals and reporting, environmental monitoring, data management, event investigation and auditing.
In addition to duties conducted at the Sun Metals site, this position also offers the opportunity to support our ship loading and unloading operations at the Port of Townsville.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support in all aspects of environmental management and compliance for the operation.
- Implement and maintain the Sun Metals Environmental Management System (EMS) and promote continual improvement in environmental performance.
- Assist in negotiations and liaison with environmental regulatory agencies on environmental issues, approvals, permit management and reporting requirements.
- Audit the Environmental Management System, undertake inspections of refinery operations and investigate environmental incidents to ensure continual improvement and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and documents for internal and external stakeholders;
- Coordinate and conduct environmental monitoring programs, data management and interpretation.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following competencies:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering
- Strong environmental management and industry experience in refining, heavy industry, mining, manufacturing or related industries
- Demonstrated experience with Queensland environmental legislation, approvals, permit management and compliance reporting requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business
- Self-motivated with excellent time management, planning and analytical skills
- Current manual driver’s license.
