Senior Environmental Assessment Officer

The Senior Environmental Assessment Officer primary responsibility is to assess and make recommendations on applications for mining, quarrying, petroleum, geothermal and other earth resources activities across Victoria. The role includes providing technical, regulatory and operational policy guidance to co-regulators, recommending proposed outcomes for complex applications, and monitoring the quality of delivery against service standards and initiating improvements.
The Senior Environmental Assessment Officer will work with other teams across the Department's Resources Division and other agencies, such as the Department Energy Environment and Climate Action, the Environment Protection Authority, local councils, catchment and water authorities, and Heritage Victoria.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
* Demonstrated expertise and experience in assessing applications for regulatory approvals to use natural resources within statutory provisions, preferrably with regard to mining, quarrying, petroleum or comparable industries.
* Industry, government or consulting experience in the mining, quarrying or petroleum sector with practical experience assessing applications for (design, development, operation and decommissioning) mining or quarrying sites.
* Proven ability to make sound judgments based on evidence, with a demonstrated record of identifying practical solutions to complex problems and delivery of complex projects.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Melbourne Various with hybrid work arrangements available.
