“We choose to go to the moon not because it is easy, but because it is hard”
? John F. Kennedy

About Butterfly
Our work is rooted in transformation - taking something from what it is to what it can become. Our goal is to help our clients embrace new technologies to advance their business.

We are known for our beautiful design, robust technology and long-term support which is driven by working strategically with clients and innovation. Our work connects people from education to healthcare, not-for-profit and government organisations. We are committed to providing industry-leading, best practice solutions which always keep the end user in mind. We aspire to be the benchmark to which our peers aspire.

Our team members are experts who, through a culture of response agility and relentless improvement, are always eager to learn and grow. We believe in creating a great place to work, to creating an environment that fosters transformation for our people, where they can be themselves, learn, grow and triumph.

There are currently 25+ of us working as designers, developers and visionaries towards our mission from our office in Melbourne CBD and across Australia.

You could be the one if…
Turning digital problems into beautiful solutions is your thing. You love to lead projects into unchartered territories, you are brave and bold. You love formulating and carrying inspiring and compelling insights from research into idea formulation. As a UX designer at Butterfly, your job is to deliver great work for our clients and users, and to support the team and business in improving our practice and approach.

You have deep and broad experience in the practice of user experience and interface design. It's not enough to tell a great story for you; you want to see something tangible expressed as a result. You know how to pull the best bits of user research and user experience design together to not only champion the voice of users, but to guide the formulation of products and services that address their real needs.

As a key member of the design team, you will be able to self-identify problems and seek advice, input and collaboration to achieve great outcomes. You use these skills to improve business and department processes as much as solving client problems. You are proactive and effective in managing your time and priorities.

You will feel at home conducting and facilitating design direction workshops, generating meaningful insights, producing wireframes and getting the sketchbook or digital tools (Figma / Adobe CS) out. You're also someone with the soft skills required to build trust, cultivate rapport and empathise with people. You might have superpowers in empathy, active listening, communication, creativity and humility.

You are expected to have knowledge and experience in these areas:
- High level of technical knowledge and experience in user experience design methodologies and their application to digital design and product outcomes
- Technical ability to design low-to-high-fidelity user interfaces (using Figma or a similar tool) and collaborate closely with developers throughout implementation
- Familiarity with the human-centred design process, and how cross-disciplinary teams can take problems from discovery and problem definition through to prototyping, testing, iteration and implementation
- An ability to clarify and bring definition to relatively complex and ambiguous briefs
- Experience testing prototypes and built experiences with users
- Familiarity with UX artefacts (such as journey maps and user flows) and processes (such as user interviews and workshops)
- Understanding of inclusive design and best practice accessibility
- The ability to talk about your work and converse around design and experiences

Butterfly is for you, if you are someone who wants to grow and learn and we are here to help facilitate that. The question is what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve it? And how can you contribute to our transformation?

Expertise you may have that would compliment our team's experience:
- Experience creating and managing design systems
- Experience with visual communication and brand identity design
- Understand the importance of and how to design to adhere to WCAG guidelines
- Strong understanding of modern software and application development processes and methodologies including front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, CSS3 is desirable.

How we support you
- We support a flexible working environment whether its from home, the office or a cafe
- We're a family-friendly company who offer parental leave and part-time arrangements to allow for things like pick-ups and drop-offs or sick children
- We're feedback-friendly culture, where we make space for open and respectful sharing of feedback that helps us grow
- We support our team taking mental health days as personal leave that they don't need to explain or have a medical certificate for
- Employee Assistance Program with Uprise for general wellbeing check-ins, assistance with career planning, or working through difficult or challenging circumstances
- We encourage you to get actively involved in the community with a volunteering leave allowance
- Our team can grow their career with our structured career pathways, generous professional development allowance and hands-on learning opportunities
- We work on meaningful projects that seek to have a positive impact in the world
- Referral programs in place that can earn team members $1000 per successful referral

Remuneration for this role
The salary band for this role is between $85,000 - $105,000 per annum (plus superannuation), depending on your level of experience.

How to apply
To be considered, please send through your resume, a folio of 1-2 of your favourite projects and a cover letter answering the following questions:
- What attracted you to this role and why do you think it would be a good fit for you?
- Tell us about a time you were able to balance designing for the needs of users with the needs of a client or business. How did you do this and what did you learn?
