Job description

Job description
  • You will define and design effective, usable and magical experiences, collaborating with other designers, technologists and strategists to bring those experiences to life.
  • We are based in Yálla-birr-ang (Collingwood, Melbourne) and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
  • We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, mature age workers and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTIQA+) people.
About the role
Our product and Experience Designers take briefs from ambiguity to clarity. They use diverse discovery methods to build a deep understanding of user and business needs in service of designing usable, purposeful and functional experiences.
Your mission is to champion great user experience, digital or physical, on projects of any size and to use your expertise to bring that experience to life with great design.
You’ll blend research, design, content and strategy to create and test prototypes, low-fidelity concepts, and beta-ready products. Your work is marked by a solid foundation of user and business value, sound structure, and usability.
Your days will be spent
  • Planning, facilitating and synthesising qualitative and quantitative research with users, stakeholders and clients
  • Creating clear and compelling experience strategy through to actionable insights
  • Defining navigation, taxonomies and content models for websites, apps and digital products
  • Creating testable prototypes from low fidelity through to detailed wireframes
  • Mapping user journeys and defining user tasks, needs and opportunities across experiences
  • Working with clients to understand their needs and take them on the journey of a design process
Requirements
You will be able to demonstrate:
  • 3-4 years experience in UX, digital or product design
  • 2+ years working as part of a design and development team
  • Proven skill in facilitation, research, client management and human-centred design methods
  • Proven skill designing for screens:
  • Well structured wireframes for responsive interfaces
  • An understanding of how typography, hierarchy, colour and space enhance usability
  • Working with developers and UI designers to bring experiences to life
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation capability
  • Be legally able to work in Australia without restriction or sponsorship
You will also bring:
  • A passion for great user-centred experience design, for digital and beyond
  • Creative problem solving
  • Client and stakeholder management skills
  • A penchant for a collaborative, creative, supportive team culture
A note to readers
Research indicates that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% the criteria, women dn other margelinised people tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes to do the role, but don’t necessarily meet every single criteria, please get in touch. We’d love to chat and see if you could be a great fit.
Working at Today
We work on work with purpose. Our projects see us finding solutions to big, complex challenges around climate, care and communities.
Above all else we strive to protect our team’s capacity for resilience and their general wellbeing. This goes beyond our dog-friendly workplace and regular pub lunches as a team.
  • We offer a compelling career framework and learning budget to support your growth
  • Today is a truly flexible workplace, making space and valuing the other important parts of your life, including generous parental leave and your birthday off
  • You are actively empowered to help shape the business, the work we do and the impact we create
  • You will work in close-knit, multi-disciplinary, self-managed project teams that make interesting, beautiful things that positively impact the community
  • Everyone is equally talented and trusts each other to experiment and suggest new ways to crack client problems
  • We aspire to create the perfect conditions for creatives to do their best work, work they are proud of, work that makes a difference
