Based in Townsville and reporting to the Exploration Manager, we are seeking an experienced Senior Greenfields Exploration Geologist to:
- Lead a team of professionals with the clear goal of discovery
- Work with the Exploration Manager to develop and implement exploration programs and strategy in line with the business objectives.
- Work with project and Exploration Geologists to supervise and complete exploration work programs in a timely and effective manner.
- Work with the Exploration Manager to develop and communicate the site exploration strategy in line with the business strategic objectives
- Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with company values and commandment's to create safe and responsible exploration practices.
Key Responsibilities
Applying a working knowledge of best practice exploration techniques to lead and mentor the exploration team to:
- Identify, rank and test targets using existing and new concepts within a greenfields exploration space.
- Develop and undertake effective exploration plans based on quality geological work
- Build understanding of project geology through geological interpretation and data analysis focusing on mineralisation controls at both a local and regional scale
- Help to develop and maintain a high-quality project portfolio
- Deliver exploration programs in a timely and efficient manner
- Provide in-field leadership and training
- Prepare reports, budgets and programs as part of the annual business cycle
- Ensure full compliance of exploration activities with site policies and procedures and state and national legislation
- Promote and maintain a high standard of safety focused exploration.
About yourself
The ideal candidate will have:
- An inquisitive mind with a passion for geology and a desire to discover a mineral deposit with involvement in previous discoveries (highly regarded)
- Extensive exploration experience, including greenfields experience, with a good understanding of gold systems, and relevant exploration techniques
- A strong technical skill set, including understanding structural, lithological, geochemical and geophysical interpretation techniques
- Experience working with large datasets and ability to utilise geological, lithogeochemical and geophysical data to conduct geological interpretation and develop working geological models
- Proven leadership capabilities with experience with mentoring and training
- Demonstrated project and contract management experience
- Understanding of QAQC procedures, drilling and sampling practices and standard gold industry laboratory analytical methods
- Proficiency with GIS (QGIS/ESRI), 3D modelling software (leapfrog), ioGas and Database Packages
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- BSc (Honours) Geology Degree (Geoscience MSc desirable)
