We are seeking an experienced Senior Coal Geologist to join our team for deployment to client sites within Queensland.
As a Senior Coal Geologist, you will play a vital role in the exploration, analysis, and evaluation of coal deposits. You will contribute to the understanding of coal resources and their potential for extraction and utilisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, collecting geological data, undertake sampling, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and responsible Coal Exploration and mining operations. Our coal positions are roster based predominantly in Queensland's Bowen Basin.
Responsibilities:- Analyse geological data, drill core, and seismic data, to determine coal seam characteristics and potential economic value
- Analyse geophysical logs to interpret coal seam depths and characteristics.
- Collect coal, reactive ground, and coal gas seam samples.
- Log and test drill core to program requirements.
- Monitor drilling and exploration activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and data collection standards.
- Utilise geological software, database, and other tools to maintain data accuracy.
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and reports to communicate findings to internal teams.
- Collaborate with other technical professionals to develop exploration plans that optimise resource recovery while minimising environmental impact.
Qualifications:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Geology/Science are mandatory (BSc Hons and MSc preferred)
- Experience in coal geology and basin geology
- Proficiency in core and chip logging, and data interpretation, including experience with Plexer is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of geological software, GIS and exposure to modelling tools.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present findings clearly.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations related to coal mining and exploration.
- Ability to work independently and in sometimes challenging field conditions.
- Actively engage in safety toolbox meetings and demonstrate an ability to identify and control potential hazards in both exploration and mine site environments.
- Strong commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable resource management.
- Medically fit – will be required to pass a Coal Board Medical
- Willingness to participate in Health and Safety Initiatives, including daily fitness-for-work
- An Open Manual Drivers Licence with no restrictions
- Formal 4WD training highly regarded.
