Exciting opportunity for a Senior Farm Hand to provide support and work on a Dairy farmThis role is located in CamdenCasual opportunity for 1 year initiallyHEO 3 Step 1 $46.39 per hourAbout the opportunityCorstorphine teaching and research farm are seeking an enthusiastic casual staff member to join our team at Camden. Initially part time hours with view of full time hours for the right candidate.This role performs tasks as directed by the Dairy Manager and Leading Hand at the Corstorphine Dairy. The tasks relate to the day-to-day operation of the farm for commercial, research and teaching activities of the University of Sydney.The job holder will need to be available for weekend, early morning and public holiday work.The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance in recruiting talent aligned to these values in the pursuit of research excellence.Your key responsibilitiesTractor, implement, and machinery operation for silage and fodder production and improvement.Maintenance of farm equipment including basic repairs to farm machineryHands on knowledge of rural fencingCommitted to maintaining a clean and safe workspace for staff, students, visitors and animalsDriving / Transport of animals / produce / feedhazard identification and reportingOther duties consistent with the classification as required by the supervisorAbout youAbility and experience in maintaining farm equipment including basic mechanical repairs.Livestock experience. Preferably dairy related i.e.. milking cows (preferred)full driver license with experience in tractor operation, including front-end loader, mixer wagon etcAbility to prioritise tasks; be reliable and maintain work / life balanceAvailability for early starts (4am), weekend work and willingness for potential split shiftsBasic computer skillsDemonstrated understanding of WHS for farmingGood verbal skillsKnowledge and ability to safely apply agricultural chemicals with chemical accreditation (Chem Cert.)Knowledgeable about livestock disease and injury treatment and calvingExperience with electric fencingExperience with heat detection and artificial insemination (desirable)Team PlayerTo keep our community safe, please be aware of our which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the positionPre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
