Who you’ll be working with:
J&D Contracting is a highly respected building maintenance provider operating within South-East Queensland & parts of Queensland’s north-west. The business provides a complete range of building services for our clients, starting from make-good building repairs for residential dwellings, units, townhouses, and commercial buildings, all the way through to large scale construction projects. J&D Contracting places a strong emphasis on sustainability and demonstrates a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship. We are seeking a Senior Accountant, who will report directly to our Finance Manager, as well as play a pivotal role in growing our internal finance team.
Your role and responsibilities:
As a Senior Accountant with J&D Contracting, you will hold an important position within our finance team. It will be expected that you will assist with administering and evaluating our financial strategy, while contributing to the company’s overall direction, performance, and value-add strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively manage & support our accounts officer to ensure the accounting and reporting systems are always reconciled and accurate. This includes, recommending and implementing process improvements as and when required.
- Understand and manage the payroll function of the business, along with our accounts officer.
- Assist with the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, budgets fand forecasts, when required.
- Collaborate closely with the finance manager to track project costs, recognition of revenue, and conducting profitability analysis for each internal business group.
- Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls and financial policies in adherence with the Australian accounting standards.
- Analysis of our financial information to offer commentary which supports strategic decision-making and cost-effectiveness strategies facilitating future growth.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulation changes and best practices to uphold compliant financial practices within the business.
What are we looking for?
- Tertiary qualified - bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or similar field.
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar commerce role or public accounting practice.
- CA or CPA - or currently working towards your post-graduate qualification.
- Prior experience using financial reporting software & accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Microsoft Excel & financial modelling/three-way reporting software’s).
- Applied knowledge of the Australian accounting standards and regulations (AASB & Australian taxation law)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills for financial data interpretation & decision making.
- While not critical, an understanding of construction accounting principles, project costing and revenue recognition is desirable but not essential.
- Willingness to be involved in a highly integrated and functioning finance team.
