About the role:
As the Senior First Nations Engagement Lead, you will drive our First Nations Engagement Strategy, fostering strong relationships with Indigenous communities and facilitating the social licence to operate for our renewable and cleaner energy plans. As an expert in Indigenous engagement, you will provide strategic advice, ensuring cultural sensitivity and safeguarding cultural heritage values. You will forge partnerships aligned with our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), creating economic opportunities through benefit sharing initiatives, training programs, and procurement prospects. Together, we will work with Indigenous communities, delivering benefits, while accelerating the transition to cleaner energy.
Why this role matters:
Develop, implement, and refine engagement strategies to build long-term relationships with Indigenous peoples and Traditional Owner Groups.
Lead research and consultation to identify the needs and interests of First Nations communities, influencing the design and delivery of effective engagement programs.
Provide expert advice and coaching to senior leaders on stakeholder engagement strategies, communication materials, and operating procedures.
Strategically partner with the business to negotiate and implement agreements with First Nations and Indigenous communities such as land use agreements and cultural heritage management plans.
Identify opportunities for collaboration and maximise socio-economic benefits for Indigenous stakeholders in renewable and cleaner energy projects.
Monitor stakeholder needs, evaluate engagement projects, and ensure compliance with agreements while facilitating the delivery of benefits to communities
What you will bring?
Experience in sectors such as Energy, Construction, Government, Resources/Mining or Heavy industry
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (desirable but not essential)
Expert understanding and navigation of the complex cultures, traditions, and histories of Indigenous peoples and the historical and contemporary issues impacting on Indigenous communities
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to facilitate dialogue, negotiation and facilitate conflict resolution
Ability to work autonomously and willingness to travel to project sites
